Press Club. Assessing Moldova’s progress in implementing the European Commission’s recommendations on the chapters: fundamental rights, freedom of expression, and social policy and employment in the context of the EU accession process

The Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup”, in partnership with Institutum Virtutes Civilis (IVC), the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, invites media representatives to the press club “Assessing the Republic of Moldova’s progress in implementing the European Commission’s recommendations on the chapters: fundamental rights, freedom of expression, and social policy and employment in the context of the European Union accession process”.

The purpose of the press club is to discuss with media representatives the dynamics of the reforms carried out by the Chișinău government in implementing the recommendations on the chapters: fundamental rights, freedom of expression, and social policy and employment. We will discuss the main achievements, constraints, priorities and next steps in implementing the European Commission’s recommendations in the context of our country’s European Union accession process.

Context: Following the Republic of Moldova’s obtaining of candidate country status for accession to the European Union, the European Commission published, in November 2023, the detailed Report on Moldova regarding progress, challenges and recommendations for the EU accession process. The report covered all chapters of the EU Acquis to be negotiated by Chișinău and Brussels within the accession negotiations, including specific recommendations for each chapter, deriving from the main challenges identified by the Commission. In this regard, the team of experts within the project “Civil Society for European Integration”, funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, has prepared the monitoring report which assesses how the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have taken into account the Commission’s recommendations under the chapters of the “Fundamentals” cluster of the accession process.
