Invitation, press conference: “Auction for voters, at voters’ expense: between populism, feasibility and electoral fantasies”

The Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup” and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Moldova (FES) invite you on Thursday, 1 July 2021, at 10:00, to the press conference “Auction for voters, at voters’ expense: between populism, feasibility and electoral fantasies”.

Although election manifestos should be the guiding books of political parties in electoral campaigns, the contestants registered for the early parliamentary elections of 11 July are building their campaigns largely on mutual attacks and populism, rather than on concrete and achievable strategies and proposals that could change for the better the lives of those who give them their vote of confidence.

Of the 22 political formations registered by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) as electoral contestants, only five have come up with highly detailed election manifestos, while the programmes and electoral offers of another twelve political entities are rather summary and incomplete, and for another five parties no document or reference to their electoral commitments for this campaign could be identified.

At the same time, as in previous elections, the campaign for the early elections abounds in populist electoral promises that are not financially feasible.

At the press conference, the authors of the analysis “Auction for voters, at voters’ expense: between populism, feasibility and electoral fantasies” – Adrian Lupușor, Dumitru Pîntea and Stas Madan – will present the findings and conclusions of an assessment of the socio-economic components of the programmes and electoral promises of the contestants in the early parliamentary elections of 11 July 2021, in terms of relevance, financial feasibility and timeliness.

The press conference will be broadcast live on the portals Privesc.eu and Rlive.md and on the Facebook pages of Expert-Grup and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova. Journalists interested in this topic are asked to send us their questions at the email address: nataliavolontir@expert-grup.org .
