Press Conference Invitation: Economic Reality No. 20
The Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup” launched the 20th issue of the monthly publication “Economic Reality” at a press conference. The event took place on 1 July 2011 in the conference hall of the Infotag News Agency (76 Kogălniceanu Street), starting at 10:00.
“Economic Reality” is a monthly analysis and forecasting publication produced by the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup”. The publication informs the general public about developments, risks and opportunities concerning Moldova’s economy and analyses the government’s responses to new challenges.
Among the most important points addressed in the current issue are:
- New elections, old problems... on the dividing lines that split Moldovan society.
- Economic growth of 8.4% in Q1’11 was exceptional, even though Expert-Grup was more optimistic than the Government when it revised its forecasts for 2011 in May this year.
- After the number of tourists accommodated in collective tourist accommodation establishments reached its lowest level in Q1’11, a record low, this indicator shows signs of a slight recovery, rising by 11.3% y-o-y.
- Remittances grew by 20% y-o-y in January–April, explaining most of the growth in consumption in Q1’11 and the 14% increase in the number of individual deposits in May.
- The banking sector is gradually shifting from lending to the government to lending to the private sector.
- Foreign trade is leaving the memories of the crisis behind.
