Round table: Exporting IT services or apples? Solutions for reducing the current account deficit of the Republic of Moldova

The Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup” is organising the round table “Exporting IT services or apples? Solutions for reducing the current account deficit of the Republic of Moldova”, at which a policy paper with solutions for remedying the excessive current account deficit of the Republic of Moldova will be presented

The event will take place on Thursday, 18 September 2025, from 11:00 to 12:30, at Hotel Bristol Central Park, Chișinău. The event will be held in Romanian.

This round table takes place at a time when the trade balance of the Republic of Moldova shows a long-term deteriorating trend, with an alarming widening of the deficit, especially in 2024-2025. Substantial current account deficits can increase the economy’s vulnerability to currency and debt crises, as well as undermine economic growth.

The purpose of the event is to analyse the causes of the deterioration of the current account and to discuss solutions for remedying the excessive deficit

The event will bring together representatives of public authorities, decision-makers, the donor community, civil society organisations, opinion leaders and the media. It is organised within the project “Civil Society for European Integration”, funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, implemented by the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup” as lead partner, in partnership with the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), the Institutum Virtutes Civilis (IVC) public association and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
